SmartCom has been involved in Industrial LED lighting upgrades for a number of years.
Old Mercury vapour (MV) and Metal Halide (MH) high bay lights are the most common type of lights many warehouses and manufacturing plants in Victoria still rely on. They have many disadvantages:
High power consumption – rated at over 400 Watts per light, including lamp and ballast
High maintenance cost – labour and access equipment hire cost for having to change blown globes and faulty ballasts
Heat losses – they operate at high temperatures, creating high energy losses
Long warm up period – it may take up to 15 minutes to get to full brightness
Fast Lumen depreciation or light losses -over time, light output decreases, and can lose 5% of its lumens in the first 200 hours, and 20% lumen loss every 2000 hours (5-6 months) thereafter.
Many business today have switched to new LED high bays.
LED high bay lights are cutting – edge, cost effective and up to 80% more efficient. In comparison, they have:
Low power consumption – most of today’s high bays are rated between 95 Watts – 120 Watts. That means reduced energy usage and saving money on your utility bills
Reduced maintenance cost – they last up to 5 times longer, with average life of 50,000 hours, and there are no globes to replace!
Easy installation – we plug in your new high bays into existing plug bases, which will save time, cost of labour and minimise disruptions to your production. We can also remove your old lights at no extra charge
No warm up period – LEDs have virtually no warm-up time. They reach maximum brightness near instantaneously
Suitable for all locations – IP65 rating (dust & water)
We have completed many installations for businesses that have converted to LED technology.
Some of those are: King’s Transport – Laverton, Ridley Corporation – Laverton, Thomas Warburton – Dandenong, MLA Holdings – Keilor Park, Woodbridge Australia – Laverton, POP Art Australia – Cheltenham, Whittley Marine Group – Campbellfield, Scania – Laverton, and many others.
FAULT FINDING AND REPAIRS
Locating faults within an electrical system requires professional expertise and systematic approach while using modern testing equipment. Electrical faults can make significant disruptions to your business, therefore they need to be attended to and resolved as quickly as possible. It can also have an impact on your OH&S policy as electrical faults can create a hazard in your work place.
SmartCom Electrical Contractors have the ability to diagnose and solve any type of electrical fault, while ensuring your business experiences minimum or no loss of production. It is important for every business to know an emergency electrician like us, who can come to the rescue when problems arise.
We also make sure we understand reasons behind why fault developed to ensure it does not interrupt your business again.
TESTING AND TAGGING
Testing and tagging comes in a few different forms:
Testing and tagging of electrical equipment, appliances and leads
SmartCom Electrical Contractors have the equipment and knowledge to ensure your employees, clients, visitors and you are safe at work. We carry out all types of tests and we keep all records for you as required by law.
Australian Standards AS/NZS 3760 requires all employers to ensure that all employees and visitors to the workplace are safe from injury and risks to health.
If you are an employer, your obligation is to manage any safety risks surrounding electrical hazards, in accordance with the requirements of the AS/NZS 3760:2010.
One of the ways to ensure all your electrical equipment is safe is to engage an electrical contractor to test your portable electrical equipment, appliances and RCD’s.
Testing and tagging of electrical equipment and appliances
RCD’s are safety switches which prevent electrocution by cutting the power to a circuit in the event of an earth leakage or fault. In simple words, they trip in milliseconds before any current gets to your heart.
RCD test measures how long the RCD takes to trip, indicating whether it is fast enough be effective.
Testing and tagging recommendation can be found in the following table:
EXIT AND EMERGENCY LIGHTING
SmartCom can assist you in different ways when it comes to your Exit and Emergency lighting systems. We can help with:
Maintenance and repairs
6 monthly testing
Exit and Emergency lighting test must be carried out every 6 months under the Australian Standards AS/NZS 2293.2. Tests ensure all your battery backed Exit and Emergency lights are fully operational in case there is a power failure in your building. These lights must remain lit for at least 90 minutes to allow people safe passage or evacuation out of the building.
Test is performed by discharging batteries and switching off power supply to all emergency and exit lighting circuits and monitor every light for 90 minutes. Essentially, we simulate a power failure and we test all batteries to ensure they are fully functional. We also carry out visual checks to see if any of the fittings are faulty or damaged.
Lights that fail the test or are damaged are repaired or replaced on the spot. We can also clean all dirty diffusers and reflective surfaces if necessary. All records are kept in the log book which must be kept in your building at all times.
